May 21, 2023

Apple has released the App Store Transparency Report for the first time, its largest app store for iOS and iPadOS devices. The most notable information mentioned is the removal of applications that violate Apple’s regulations in 2022.

Accordingly, Apple’s application store has 1,783,232 applications. In 2022, Apple’s team rejected nearly 1.7 million app registrations from the App Store with numerous fraud and privacy related bugs. The company’s application review process has detected applications using malicious code capable of stealing user credentials from third-party services. Some apps disguise themselves as harmless financial management platforms but have the potential to turn into another app

In 2022, Apple removed 186,195 apps, mostly in the categories of games (38,883 apps) and utility tools (20,045 apps). Vietnam has 8,462 applications deleted with the most reason for violating design principles (4,657 applications) – ranked sixth in the world, applications deleted for fraud reasons is 3,626, ranked second in the world.

Apple’s transparency report also said that Vietnam is in the top 10 countries in terms of the number of developers complaining after the application is removed, with 416 times. 11 apps have been returned to the App Store after Apple’s review.

Apple says China is the leading country in requesting the removal of apps. The Chinese government has asked Apple to remove 1,435 apps from the store. Of these, 1,276 games were removed for not having a GRN license. Apple also removed 14 apps at the request of the Indian government. Pakistan and Russia are also on the list with 10 and 7 apps, respectively.

The App Store has nearly 37 million registered developers. Every week, Apple’s app store has more than 656 million visitors, reaching 747 million downloads. Last year, the company locked 282 million accounts, preventing $2.2 billion in fraudulent transactions on the platform.

The report was released as part of a 2021 lawsuit settlement agreement with a group of developers. Apple has agreed to be more transparent about its App Store policies.
