Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak announced this at a joint press conference during their visit to the Bumar-Labedy defense enterprise, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"Bumar-Labedy will launch the production of the Krab air defense system," Morawiecki said to the applause of the company's employees.
He added that this will allow the company to hire new employees.
In his turn, Blaszczak said that in addition to the Huta Stalowa Wola defense plant in Stalowa Wola (southeastern Poland), Krab systems will now also be produced at Bumar-Labedy.
"As the Ministry of Defense, we have ordered another batch of Krabs. They were also ordered by Ukrainians, as this weapon proves itself in the hands of brave Ukrainian soldiers and effectively protects Ukraine from Russian aggression," emphasized Blaszczak.
After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Poland transferred three batteries (18 units) of 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine. Subsequently, in June, Ukraine and Poland signed an agreement on Kyiv's purchase of about 60 more Krab self-propelled artillery systems. The deal is worth 2.7 billion zlotys (over $650 million), and Ukraine became the first export customer of this type of weapon.
The Krab is also in service with the Polish Armed Forces.
