Lithuania has already transferred € 409 million of assistance to Ukraine and is preparing a new aid package.
This was discussed during a meeting between Arvydas Anušauskas, Minister of Defense of Lithuania, and Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk, First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania reports.
“The lessons learned in Ukraine help us develop our military capabilities in a purposive manner. We also strongly stand by the position to support Ukraine in every way we can as the next assistance package for Ukraine is already in the making,” Anušauskas said at the meeting.
They note that a significant part of the support from Lithuania is the training of Ukrainian forces.
In 2023, the plan is to train 1,600 soldiers. Lithuanian military instructors train Ukrainians both on the territory of Lithuania and through Operation Interflex and the EU training mission.
In addition, demining training is planned, which will be organized jointly with the Nordic countries.
Arvydas Anušauskas emphasized that Lithuania is preparing for the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July, where NATO membership prospects for Ukraine will be placed among the other critical agenda points.
In addition, Lithuania has an active volunteer movement in support of Ukraine.
At the end of February, in Lithuania, €14 million were raised for radars, which should help protect Ukrainian skies from Russian attacks.
Funds were raised for modern Israeli-made radars. The campaign launched on January 30 received the Lithuanian name RADAROM!
The campaign engaged public organizations supporting Ukraine in Lithuania, such as Blue/Yellow, Laisvės TV, 1K fondas and Stiprūs kartu, as well as the Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT.
