Germany has frozen Russian assets worth more than 5.3 billion euros

The total amount of Russian assets frozen in Germany since the beginning of the war in Ukraine amounted to approximately EUR 5.32 billion.

Source. This was reported by DW with reference to the German weekly Welt am Sonntag.

Details. As the German Ministry of Finance clarified, the penalties affected not only the funds of individuals and companies included in the EU sanctions lists, but also the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

The Ministry did not answer the question about the amount of frozen money belonging to Russian oligarchs.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the new Central Sanctions Enforcement Office (ZfS) is still in the process of being established. Currently, there are 36 employees there, but further staffing is "continuously" being increased.

For "priority areas, such as asset identification," appropriate structures are being created.

According to the second part of the law on the implementation of sanctions in Germany, adopted in December last year, ZfS also has to maintain a register of frozen assets, which is published on the agency's website. However, this is still not happening.

Background. As reported, the EU has approved the creation of a working group on the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation for the restoration of Ukraine.

It also became known that Switzerland will not confiscate private assets of the Russian Federation in favor of Ukraine.
