VLADIMIR Putin has been accused of being responsible for twice as many deaths in the besieged city of Mariupol than Hitler.

Some 21,000 civilians have been slaughtered by Russian troops as they desperately tried to flee the relentless bombardment.

Mariupol's embattled mayor, Vadym Boychenko, has warned thousands more of the city's innocents could die within weeks as decomposing bodies begin poisoning water supplies.

The leader also likened Putin to Adolf Hitler as he claimed the Russian tyrant is eviler than the Nazi dictater was and has more blood on his hands in Mariupol.

He told inews: "The evil created by Russia in Mariupol is even worse than Nazi Germany.

"In the Second World War, 10,000 people were killed in Mariupol in a two-year occupation.

"In two months of this blood-shedding war, Russia has killed more than 20,000. Putin is a bigger evil than Hitler and we must stop him."

Evil Hitler's Nazi reign saw around six million Jews brutally killed in the Holocaust.

Amid their countless atrocities, around 160 concentration camps were set up across Ukraine and more than 1.3million prisoners of war died at them.

Thousands of those killed were in Mariupol.

Russian tyrant Putin sent his troops into Ukraine on February 24, claiming the country needed to be "de-Nazified".

On a phone call to German chancellor Olaf Scholz just this month, he insisted his troops were fighting "Nazi ideology".

Mariupol's mayor says conditions in the city - which has suffered some of the worst devastation since the war began - are getting "increasingly worse".

He added: "People are scared. There is no electricity or gas, no food, but the biggest immediate problem now is with the drinking water.

“The weather is getting warmer and, according to the estimates of doctors, we can expect contagious diseases that will take thousands of lives of our civilians.

“Bodies are buried all over the city.

"The soil will be poisoned and it will get into underground water and into rivers and the sea. There will be a real, absolute tragedy."

Defenders who were staging desperate final stand against Putin's troops at a steel plant in the besieged city have begun to evacuate the site as it is continually attacked.

Footage reportedly shows 256 Ukrainian fighters of the Azov Battalion allegedly surrendering at the besieged Azovstal iron and steel as more than 50 were in need of urgent medical attention.

In two months of this blood-shedding war, Russia has killed more than 20,000. Putin is a bigger evil than Hitler and we must stop him.

The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) said today: “The surrender of militants of the nationalist ‘Azov’ unit began yesterday at the ‘Azovstal’ plant in Mariupol.

“Over the past day, 265 militants laid down their arms and surrendered, including 51 seriously wounded.

"All those in need of medical care were sent for treatment to a hospital in the city of Novoazovsk, Donetsk People's Republic.”

The brave soldiers had been defending the final piece of Mariupol under Ukrainian control as the city suffered horror bombardment from the early days of the war.

A young girl was among several killed when a maternity hospital in the city was brutally bombed.

Harrowing pictures showed bloodied pregnant women being stretchered away from the rubble.

In another shocking incident in March, a theatre sheltering up to 1,200 women and children cowering for safety was blitzed - leaving hundreds dead.

It was targeted by Russians despite the word "children" being written outside of it.

Just this week, Russia was accused of pummeling Ukrainian defenders at the Mariupol steel plant with 2,500C deadly phosphorus bombs.

Ukrainian officials claim the clip shows Russian forces dropping 9M22S incendiary and phosphorus bombs on the steelworks - which combust at up to 2,500C.
