A previous president predicted a foreign dictatorship would invade an East Asian island state.
Donald Trump expects the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to follow the Russia-Ukraine example of military action in Taiwan.
“By the way, China is gonna be next,” he said according to the “Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.” “I got to know President Xi … [and the CCP will] absolutely [go after Taiwan].”
Trump believes CCP leaders are waiting for post-Beijing Winter Olympics operations to conclude before taking aggressive action.
“They are waiting until after the Olympics. Now the Olympics ended, and look at your stopwatch, right?” he said.
“It is almost like twin sisters right here because you have one that wants Taiwan, I think, equally badly. Somebody said, ‘Who wants it more?’ I think probably equally badly,” he added.
The former president stressed neither Russia nor the CCP would have resorted to military invasion if he had won another four years in the Oval Office.
“[Vladimir] Putin would have never done it and Xi [Jinping] would have never done it, and also North Korea has not acted up for four years,” he said. “Not with me, they wouldn’t have.”
The remarks came after the White House announced a new round of sanctions against Moscow-headquartered investment company VEB and Russian sovereign debt.
The country’s responsible “elites” and family members, who allegedly enjoy “corrupt gains” from Kremlin policies, will also be targeted.
“We have cut off Russia’s government from western financing–they can no longer raise money from the west, and cannot trade in its new debt on our markets or European markets either,” President Joe Biden said in a statement.
